Christmas markets are by far my favourite way to get into the Christmas spirit. The smell of mulled wine, baking biscuits and the sound of carols carrying through the air. For the first time ever I visited the Manchester Christmas Markets and I was overwhelmed by the beauty and design of it all. With rows upon rows of Yuletide chalets hosting an array of festive treats, what isn’t there to love? Quick tip: If you have a major sweet tooth like myself then you have to visit the cookie dough stall (situated next to the pizzeria outside Selfridges).
Although the markets are there to be enjoyed by all there are still some things you can do to make your experience more enjoyable.
– Visit during the quieter times. The markets open at 10am daily so if you want some peace and quiet then visit during the morning/afternoon instead of the more popular evening times. With over 300 stalls to see and enjoy, make the most of your time and avoid the crowds.
– Keep hold of your mug. If you’re after some egg nog or mulled wine then be sensible (Hahahah as if), you get charged a deposit on each one so don’t lose it and you can get more drink for less!! If you return it at the end of the evening you can get your money back or take it home as a pretty souvenir. Win win really.
– Wrap up warm. All of these stalls are situated outside and with the weather dropping it can get pretty nippy. Wrap up toasty warm and make a full day of it, the bars stay open until 9pm so end the day with a warm mug of mulled wine or German beer.
I can’t wait to go back after pay day and make some Christmas purchases, let me know where your favourite market is this festive season! Here’s just a snapshot of my day:
Lots of love, Lottie xoxo
